Just a reminder to all students about hallway expectations. We have seen an increase in students running, lingering in hallways, and putting hands on each other. Please be sure that you are demonstrating mutual respect. This means

Getting to classes on time- using the quickest route

Walking in the hallway

Not stopping in the middle of the hallway to talk with friends

Keeping hands to yourself, even if you are joking around

It is important we maintain a positive learning environment, even during transition times. Please support with this by doing your part and following our building level expectations.

We wanted to take an opportunity to revisit the expectations for lunch study hall. Lunch study hall is a time for students to socialize with friends, complete schoolwork, or play school-appropriate games on their computers. It is important that we respect the people and space within lunch study halls. Be on Time: Lunch Study Hall is part of the daily schedule. Be mindful that other students are in class and that it is important to get to Lunch Study Hall quietly and on time. Attendance is taken within the first five minutes of class. If you arrive late, you should have a pass. Only one student at a time will be allowed to use the restroom or go to their locker. Please present your planner to be signed and get a pass. Respect the Space: No food or drink is allowed in your lunch study hall. Please be sure the space looks better when you leave than when you arrive. At the end of lunch study hall please clean up your area and/or push in their chairs.

We are interested in games and activities you would like in your lunch study halls. To submit a request for a game or activity, please complete the Dake Game & Activity Survey located at the top of the Dake Student Resources Schoology page. Entries will be reviewed on March 4th.

There will be no school on Monday in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day. Signed into law by President Ronald Reagan on November 2, 1983, Martin Luther King Jr. Day is a federal holiday that occurs around the time of King’s birthday each year on the third Monday of January. Here’s a snippet from President Reagan’s speech in the Rose Garden as he proclaimed MLK Day a national holiday:

“In his own life’s example, he symbolized what was right about America, what was noblest and best, what human beings have pursued since the beginning of history,” Reagan said. “He loved unconditionally. He was in constant pursuit of truth, and when he discovered it, he embraced it. His nonviolent campaigns brought about redemption, reconciliation, and justice. He taught us that only peaceful means can bring about peaceful ends, that our goal was to create a loving community.”

Have a wonderful Friday, Dakers. Be sure to choose kindness, support our community, and do your best. Thank you.

This afternoon, students will receive rapid test kits in their 9th period classes. Students, if your family opted out of receiving a kit or wanted to pick up a kit directly, you will not be receiving one this afternoon. For students that receive kits, please store them in a safe place and bring them home to your family after school. Teachers, please cross-check the roster you are given and mark off who you distributed a test to. Please bring your roster and any extra tests down to the main office at dismissal. All faculty and staff can pick up their rapid test kit and a K95 mask in the main office starting at 10:30 AM.

With the new COVID variant, it is imperative that all students and staff mask properly, with your mask covering your mouth and nose. The new variant is extremely contagious, so it is important that you are masking properly and trying to maintain distance from others when possible. Please do your part in protecting both yourself and others. We need everyone to demonstrate mutual respect so we can all stay healthy.

After school tutoring today:

Math 7: Uebelacker- Rm 305

Math 8: Speed-Line- Rm 126

Algebra: Peterson- Rm 302

Today, you will take your iReady assessment for ELA. You should be in first period right now and will remain in this testing location until the end of 3rd period. If you receive a pass from your teacher to move to a different location for testing, please do so quickly and quietly. Please take your time and do your best on the assessment this morning. Results will be shared with you when you are completed. Good luck!

Students will need to show their planner to the teacher/staff member to get it signed before using the bathroom. This structure will be used in ALL classes, study halls, and lunch study halls. You do not need to bring the planner with you to the bathroom but you still need to have a pass. Please make sure you get one from your teacher before exiting the classroom.

For students that arrive tardy to class on a consistent basis, we will continue to follow up with you through phone calls home, conferences, and consequences. Please make sure that you are arriving to classes on time.

Masks need to be worn correctly throughout the day, which means that the mask needs to full cover your mouth and nose. You will be offered mask breaks during classes and you can also advocate for a mask break from your teachers as well. For students that continue to receive chronic reminders, you will receive communication home, a conference with administration and other consequences such as time away during lunch or the successful completion of a mini-course in Schoology around masking and safety.

This is just a reminder that students are not permitted to eat or drink in the hallways. You may only eat or drink during your lunch or with permission from your teacher.

Again, thank you to all students that continue to follow our expectations to provide a positive and productive learning environment for others.
